Quick update on projects.
First what I'm knitting now. After the crochet scarf I wanted something that would just roll off my needles. I'd been thinking about a sweater/jacket and also another skirt but wasn't quite ready to commit to either of these. So I went to the stash - this its turning out to be an unofficial stash bust year for me - and found a single skein of Lorna's Laces purchased on impulse and on sale. I had no plans for it when I purchased it and I've pulled it out of the stash a few times with no ideas forthcoming. This time I left it on the couch for a few days and woke up one morning thinking humm ... entrelac? scarf?
A big thank you to everyone who encouraged me to go with the Periwinkle as a scarf. I'm much happier with it as a scarf. It's surprisingly weighty but feels great on.
I've changed the name from the Periwinkle to the Flower Power Scarf.
I still think the Periwinkle top is a lovely garment. But with this project I learned that for me to wear a top that ornate I'd need to make it in white or cream. If anyone feels up to the challenge of the Periwinkle I would recommend doing it in a solid color and going with the recommended yarn. If choosing crochet cotton I recommend doing the motifs with a tight tension as the weight really does add up and I think you need firmer motifs than I have for a crochet garment that won't droop.
A modeled shot of the Flower Power Scarf is coming - at the moment my husband is away but when he returns I will ask him to photograph me wearing the scarf. In the meantime here is one more photo of it.
In closing I have to say I've never lost so much sleep over a project and but now that it's all done I'm really glad I made this.
You know that crazy place where you start making up nicknames for your current project?
I'm there.
The Periwinkle has now been dubbed the Crochet Enduro. I started this in mid-August and am still working on it. 122 crochet motifs have been done and now I've started on the sleeve bands.
Here's one done and laid out quickly with a few of the motifs to give you a rough idea of where I'm going.
I've got both sleeve bands done but am thinking of redo-ing the first one because the edges are wonky. But first I will do the back and front bands for the body of the tunic and then I'll decide. After the bands are finished it's a matter of freeform crocheting the motifs together.
The good news is I've kept working on this and the bad news is that 122 crochet motifs might not be enough and I may have to do a few more. I'll cross that bridge when I get there though.
